Momofuku Milk Bar hands down sounds like the most awesomest place on earth for anyone with a sweet tooth (like me!) So when Sarah informed me that Christina Tosi (aka the Queen of Momofuku Desserts) had released a cookbook Momofuku Milk Bar, being the sugar addict that I am I knew I had to hunt down some recipes from it. Sarah came across the lovely blog Kitchen Heals Soul where the writer actually made the Momofuku Birthday Cake from the recipe in the book. This might not seem like a huge deal, but when you actually read the recipe and find out the amount of effort and detail involved it is actually quite a feat of baking! I would reprint the recipe here but it would literally go on forever.
Lets just say it involves a two day process of baking, freezing and soaking. But the end result looks totally amazing. It really is the ultimate birthday cake- full of sprinkle-y, cake crumby, salty and butter icing-y goodness. Although attempting the recipe would probably cause me to have a nervous breakdown, if I lived stateside I'd so be ordering one off Momofuku's online store right now! (If you're brave enough to give it a go the full recipe is over here).
Something much easier - yet still so tasty- are the Compost Cookies: Pretzels, rice bubbles, potato chips, chocolate and oats all combined together to form the ultimate salty and sweet cookie deliciousness! Further proof that Americans truly are the Gods of sweet and salty food combinations.
Love cereal so much that you not only eat it for breakfast, but for lunch and dinner too? Then Momofuku's Cereal Milk Ice Cream, topped off with caramelised corn flakes is the sweet treat for you! You do need an ice cream maker though, plus the willpower of the saint to prevent you from eating the caramelised cereal and the milk mixture that you create from it.
Crack Pie. A pie filled with sweet sugary, butterscotch-y, caramel-y gooey goodness. Has been known to cause withdrawal symptoms among it's fans. Individuals may also resort to stealing valuables and money in order to feed their pie eating addiction. But now you can make it at home! Momofuku Milk Bar's cookbook spills the secret Crack Pie recipe so you alone can devour every last, delicious crumb hunched over like a junkie in the corner of your darkened bedroom. Awesome.*
Momofuku Milk Bar's Christina Tosi will be in Australia for the Crave Sydney Food Festival as part of the World Chef Showcase on October 6-7. For more info on how to get tickets, check out the website here.
Do you have a massive sweet tooth? Would you ever attempt to re-create something like the Momofuku Birthday Cake recipe?
