Just when I thought nail foils were the cutting edge of nail art awesomeness, along comes a brand new mega-trend in the making to knock them off their perch: the three dimensional nail.
The 3D nail is already huge in Japan (actually I think all super cool beauty trends originate from there) where they are available as a good ol' temporary stick on nail set or the more permanent gel manicure. Check out this seriously amazing set below- how cute is that?! Although it would make those everyday activities like typing, writing, getting dressed, cleaning and, well, basically everything a tad more complicated. Not to mention having to live in constant fear of accidentally stabbing out your own eyeball with one of those babies. But it would be a very cute way to lose an eye, no?
Lady Gaga also rocked some serious 3D velvet talons in her music video for her song Judas. Unfortunately they aren't too wearable for us normal folk, but they're seriously fun to look at. Although they would make a great self defence weapon...
A far less scary way to get into the 3D trend is by using Ciate's Caviar Manicure. The manicure duo was invented so women could recreate the inventive (yet complicated and impractical) nail designs from fashion magazines easily for themselves.
Each Caviar Manicure comes with a base colour, coloured Caviar pearls plus a tray and funnel as sprinkling the pearls onto nails is apparently a bit of a messy enterprise! To get the 3D look, you apply the coloured nail polish, sprinkle the pearls over your nail and gently press them into the wet polish. You have to work on one nail at a time and wait about 20 minutes for them to dry, so personally I don't think I'd have the patience to do all ten of my fingers. Plus, as it chips away I reckon your nails would end up getting snagged on everything so I think one statement nail on each hand would look awesome enough!
The Caviar Manicure sets have been a complete sell out in the UK, so it's only a matter of time before the trend explodes everywhere else- hopefully here in Australia because I'm dying to try it out! Has anyone else given the 3D nail trend a go? Or are you a fan of more subtle nail art?
Have a beautiful week!
